The Durham County Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Division promotes and protects public health through the enforcement of local and state public health and environmental health laws, rules and regulations as determined by the State Statutes.  

Registered Environmental Health Specialists (REHS) enforce rules and regulations are required to be authorized by the North Carolina Division of Environmental Health and registered by the North Carolina State Board of Registered Environmental Health Specialists. 

Educational activities support the enforcement program. Educational opportunities, information, and environmental health literature is available upon request.
